The
glass in the furnace (called 'batch') is clear, so to add color to the
glass, the hot gather is rolled in granules of colored glass called frit. When the surface of the gather is covered with frit (or has the desired amount of color) the gather is inserted into the glory hole which is like a large oven. The heat from the glory hole melts the color into the gather. |
