In this sequence, the assistant brings a punty rod with a small gather of glass on the end. The gaffer guides the end of the punty and attaches it to the button that was added in the previous step. After the punty is securely attached, the gaffer uses the jacks to cool the neck, then with a "bonk", the piece breaks off of the pipe and (if the punty is attached properly) remains on the punty. "Punty" comes from the Italian word for "bridge". | |
